This week World History and US History students completed two projects for Read, White and Blue Literacy Week. The first project of the week required students to write a blackout poem using a text sheet from an old English Dictionary. Students had to use the existing text to create their poem and then blackout or draw art to complement their poem. Their second activity was to create a piece of static art. The Declaration of Independence has a lot in common with static art; both are set and unchanging, both are persuasive or evoke emotions and both are carefully constructed. The students only had two instructions: it had to convey the emotions of the Declaration of Independence and they had to be creative. As you can see from these pictures the students have gone above and beyond with their projects.

Branford High School students brought creativity during Literacy Week with a Shoebox Parade!
Students researched and designed shoebox floats highlighting influential scientists, engineers, inventors, and inventions from that represent important moments in U.S. history.
